Beer Without Frontiers was created in 2014 by wine & beer writer Jacopo Mazzeo PhD.
Jacopo has been involved in the beverage sector for most of his professional life. He first started by working in the beer sector - hence the name 'Beer Without Frontiers' - then moved onto wine a few years later.
Jacopo developed his expertise and industry knowledge by working in hospitality as a sommelier, writing for magazines and blogs, judging competitions, organising events and tutoring tastings. He is now writing about wine, beer and sipping spirits for Imbibe, the UK's leading magazine for the on-trade drinks industry.
Jacopo is a certified sommelier for both wine and beer, and is currently working towards WSET Diploma. He has been Director of the British Guild of Beer Writers in 2016-2017; in 2016 he was awarded Best Young Beer Writer.
He's judged a number of international wine and beer competitions, including the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, the International Beer Challenge, the Sommelier Wine Awards and the SIBA National Independent Beer Awards.
Jacopo is particularly passionate about travel and considers beer & wine as the ideal mean to understand local cultures. He likes to visit countries of strong brewing or winemaking heritage as well as recently-developed markets. This helps him achieve a better understanding of the beverage sector as a whole and provides him with the necessary skills to think outside the box, so that he is always confident he can offer a high-standard service to his readers and clients.
Besides his involvement in the beverage sector, he is also a musicologist. Jacopo was awarded the PhD at the University of Southampton; before that, he accomplished both Bachelor and Master’s degree at the University of Bologna. His doctoral studies were funded by the British Arts and Humanities Research Council; during that period he undertook research and presented at international conferences in the UK, Italy, Belgium, Finland, and Germany.
